Lenny Kravitz Hairstyle

One of the most controversial hairstyles in the world, Dreadlocks are naturally associated with the Rastafarian or African culture. Dreadlocks are basically matted or knotted strands of hair that can be forced or naturally evolved by letting hair knot. This style requires low maintenance but constant management. One of the celebrities identified with this style is Lenny Kravitz.

Lenny Kravitz was born in New York in 1965. A peculiar rock artist, Kravitz genre plays a multicultural style of rock combined with a little sensibility. His first big break was with Let Love Rule, which he played with a classic rock ensemble during the later Woodstock generation. His music style incorporated soul, funk and rock fused with the psychedelic pretext of the 60’s and 70’s. Until now, Lenny remains one of the more popular icons of the pop-soul market.

Contrary to Lenny’s image, were the dreadlocks that are his crowning glory. Lenny grew his hair past shoulder length for years to exhibit fresh, clean, and textured locks. Lenny’s front hair is cut short to reveal more of the face. A lot of celebrities also sport the look, such as Bob Marley, Whoopi Goldberg, Adam Duritz, Rob Zombie, Busta Rhymes, Mike “Puffy” Bordin, and many more.

Dreads are a 2500 year-old phenomena. In fact, the earliest documentation for the dreads, go as far as 2000 BC. They say a Vedic God named ‘Shiva’ wore them. Someone with the matted locks will look very sexy and appealing if done correctly. Dreadlocks are easy to maintain depending on the length and volume. Having thick and coarse hair is perfect to mimicking this style.

Another look Lenny carried on his hair-crazed career, was to shorten the precious locks to reveal the evenly famous Afro look. The Afro has been a fashion statement during the 1970’s and is still one of the sexiest look in men’s hairstyle today. Afro is created using a hair pick designed to maximize the volume of kinky hair. Naturally worn by African Americans, it is now slowly being adopted by all races and ages.

Lenny’s Afro had made several adjustments; he started out with an even length creating a round effect. It then progressed to a shorter version that spurned-out a spiky do. The round afro has been cut short and layered at the back and sides, while the top portion was left longer and thinned out. This look is rather easy to maintain with occasional trims.

Some celebrities who also wore the Afro were: Michael Jackson, the Jackson Five, Diana Ross, The Supremes, and many more. Anyone can wear this hairstyle, regardless of what shape your face is. The afro concentrates more on increasing the volume of the head, instead of the hair. So you don’t have to worry if your head is big or small, it doesn’t matter, and you’ll still look as cool as if you were in the 70’s.

Kravitz still continues to surprise everybody with his daring styles and overly ambitious fashion statements. He is one of the trendsetters not only to his craft, but in men’s style today.
