Retro Hairstyles

"Retro" is defined as from the last century, i.e., 1900-1999. In recent years, we have occasionally seen modern stars wearing retro hairdos on the red carpet. Either they found a vintage gown they loved, and needed a suitable vintage hairstyle to go with it, or they simply decided they wanted to try something different--retro styling. Retro evening hairstyles can look just as elegant, if not more elegant than, many modern night styles. Ladies in earlier eras had a sense of elegance and refinement that is not always visible today. It came from their upbringing, in part, and their education. It wasn't just the way they dressed; it was an elegant state of mind. Just as there is classic clothing, there are classic hairstyles. You can look good in them at any time. They may not even look "dated."

1920s was the decade of the short bob and hair nets. This was the celebrity hairstyle of the 1920s decade popularized by American actress Louise Brooks. Its defining features are its shortness; angle of the "sideburns" forward toward the mouth; and bowl-cut style or straight bangs.

1930-Platinum blondes got their start from Jean Harlow in the 30s. This short style has the popular finger waves of the decade, but it still looks thick and attractive. 1950-Very Short Retro Hair Design for Women
Woman's hair looked rather tight but it's still stylish and has some volume. It's got some personality, too.1950s hairstyles were often short but they didn't get much shorter than this.
